Breakdown of topological protection due to nonmagnetic edge disorder in two-dimensional materials in the quantum spin Hall phase

چکیده

We study the suppression of conductance quantization in quantum spin Hall systems by a combined effect electronic interactions and edge disorder, that is ubiquitous exfoliated chemical vapor deposition grown two-dimensional (2D) materials. show interplay between localized states due to defects electron-electron gives rise local magnetic moments, break time-reversal symmetry topological protection 2D systems. Our results suggest disorder leads small deviations perfect quantized short samples strong long ones. analysis based on Kane-Mele model, an unrestricted Hubbard mean-field Hamiltonian, self-consistent recursive Green's function technique calculate transport quantities.
